For as long as I can recall I wanted to follow in the family tradition of builders, started by my Great Grandfather who came to New Zealand as a ship’s carpenter in the 1800’s, and continued by my father and uncles before me. The highlight of my school years was woodwork classes. After completing school certificate at Mt Albert Grammar School I began my carpentry apprenticeship with what was then the NZ Post Office attaining my Trade Certificate in carpentry.
I love working with my hands, turning ideas on paper into reality; making dreams come true. Family matters to me, my wife and I have raised two young adults and our experiences along the way have taught me what matters in a home, which means that when working within a family home I respect and uphold what matters to their family. I value honesty and integrity and besides music, playing the drums, following NRL League and V8 Supercars, I enjoy the satisfaction that comes with an honest days work.

Layne ChilmanCertified Builder and Director

When I was growing up I was always making things so when it came to school I naturally enjoyed the subjects in which I had to make things i.e. woodwork and metalwork. After passing School Certificate I left school and began my carpentry apprenticeship with a commercial building company. After four years and completing the Trade Certificate I knew I wanted to build houses and the next five years I spent on new builds and renovations.
During this time I bought my first house which I modernized and improved which started my keen interest in renovating my own properties. This I have done several times, which really gives me the ability to advise clients and give them ideas on what they can achieve. Many clients become friends because we spend a lot of time in their homes and on many occasions do repeat business. The thing I enjoy most about building is bringing a quality product to people which exceeds their expectations.
